Teachers Impact Every Student
By Jenny Martin, College Section, Dayton, VA:
Karen came up to me on my last day of teaching with a large box. I had decided to shift gears when I had my first child, and my last day of class was actually my due date. I showed my gratitude through my eyes as I looked into hers, and said thank you with all the authenticity I could muster. I was surprised. Karen was so quiet. She was the student I hardly knew. I unwrapped the box to find a quilt that she had stitched by hand. I was astounded that anyone would take the time to give me and my unborn child a gift that required such thought and time, let alone a quiet student that I hardly knew.
